Pepsi of Greenville Story
In 1940, Thomas S. Hartness acquired the Pepsi franchise for Greenville, SC. With just 14 employees and 5 trucks, he opened the first Pepsi plant in Greenville on Poinsett Highway. Led by Mr. Hartness, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Greenville would grow to be a market leader focused on innovation, customer service and community involvement.
In addition to being a leader among Pepsi bottlers, Tom Hartness was an instinctive entrepreneur and natural inventor.
In 1945 he developed and patented the beverage industry’s first automated case packer. He would later go on to found Hartness International, a global leader in the packaging industry.
In 1968, our sales and distribution offices relocated at 751 State Park Road in Greenville, South Carolina.
In 1982, Carolina Canners, Inc. a family owned, independent Pepsi bottler and production cooperative, based in Cheraw, SC acquired the assets of Pepsi Cola Bottling of Greenville from the Hartness family.
Today, Pepsi of Greenville continues to honor the legacy of Mr. Hartness by maintaining our commitment to our employees, our community, and to building our business through innovation and customer service.
